We haven't had much going on around here other than an attempt to gently tackle the sleeping patterns that are just not working for this mama. I've been getting a maximum of 2 consecutive hours of sleep for many many weeks now after a brief and glorious run of good sleeping when Kit was not quite 4 months old. And really, I'm too old for that. So, new routines are in place that are guiding Kit toward longer sleeping and transitioning to one (hopefully) longer nap rather than the two catnaps that a good night's sleep seems to inspire. Overall it's been working well, so long as we don't talk about last night. I'm pretty sure she was calling me some unkind names as she shouted GADAGAAGADADA!!!! at me. Two steps forward, one step back, I guess. Hopefully tonight will be better.
Talking about baby sleep is like talking about breastfeeding vs. formula - everyone has a very strong opinion about what's right and our opinions are very deeply rooted in our beliefs about parenting. Personally, I stay largely on the baby led track with these things, but once I started really not liking the sleep-deprived me, I had to make some changes. After some discussion with friends, I'm using this approach. It's not as quick as some others may be, but it's a method that I can reconcile with my desire to not leave the baby crying without comfort. I'm looking forward to having a chunk of night time back and to being a nicer person. I also have high hopes for some productive time.
The baby is loving being outside basically all the time with our fabulous January weather (sorry to snowbound readers), so today, Jeff and Annika set up the blanket out in the yard and I snuck into the studio. I pulled out some tracing paper to make 3 quick pattern templates - small, medium and full coverage - and started cutting out bibs for Miss Messypants. This one is the medium size.
I cut two of them out from my last big scrap of this Pop Garden print - I love how the flower was exactly the right size for the bib I had drawn. I used packaged bias trim for this one because I was after some quick accomplishment - I'll probably make my own for most of the others. I fancied it up a bit with one of the fashion cams for my Rocketeer. I should probably branch out since it's the same one I used on Annika's apron. I think it was an easy way to add some pizazz to the look without adding lots of time to the project. I have a stack of Japanese prints and cute florals to make about a dozen of these. The girl loves her food and I'm over it landing on her shirt. I think I'll make the biggest ones with a crumb catcher pocket so those frozen blueberries don't end up squashed under her pants. Oops.
Okay, off to take advantage of naptime and knock out a few more bibs. Hope you all are well.
