Technically, we didn't follow the "explore our city" theme that we established yesterday, but we went where life took us. Today we brought some cinnamon rolls to a dear friend with a broken leg who lives out in Buckeye, about 30 miles west of Phoenix. Her granddaughter and Annika are great buddies, so we made the trek out to see them today.
I lugged my big bag o' quilting fabrics with me and we did more work on designing the kids quilts while the kids all ran around like crazy folk. I think I'm afraid of cutting into the fabrics, so I keep thinking these darned things to death and making other people weigh in. Because once I cut, then I can't turn back. Can't change course. And I love being able to turn back and change course. I love plan b. Quilting doesn't seem to have a plan b. But, I think we have a strong plan A now - one I don't feel inclined to turn back from. I'm going to use the Denyse Schmidt "What a Bunch of Squares" pattern for both quilts, but in different colorways (as photographed a while back). Annika's will be orange/pink with a shot of blue. Gunnar's will be green/blue with a shot of orange. The background will be off-white, to cool down the bright colors and patterns. This is the pattern and is close to the color of Annika's quilt plan. I think hers turned out beautifully. They will be 3 blocks across and 4 blocks tall, which will measure about 45x62. Just right for snuggling.
On the way home, we stopped at Hobby Lobby in Avondale. I had never been to Hobby Lobby. Wow. I think our heads exploded. Each of us had a $10 limit and we did quite well for our money. The best score was 10 sheets of shrinky dink plastic that was immediately ripped into when we got home. Good thing that place is 20 miles away, or I'd be in big big trouble. 10 minutes later, this was the state of my dining room table.
Please tell me this doesn't only happen to me. I'll confess that the stack at the far end was pre-existing and that the ball winder is mine, but wow. 5 minutes, people. Dinner? We ate on the couch.
Up for tomorrow is a trip to the farmers market, golf lesson registration and poking around the fun vintage shops on 7th Ave and maybe Goodwill. In the afternoon, we have a reorganization project. Good times will be had by all.
