Not sure how a week went by, but there it is! I think I was spending a lot of time last week just getting a handle on things - laundry, moving furniture around, kicking my sewing machine into time out and figuring out the one I borrowed from my neighbor (which is so much nicer than mine - not sure she's getting it back anytime soon). We've gone on some small adventures that I'll show you this week. Really.
I've also been obsessed by Weekend Sewing. Obsessed to the point of tracing patterns on butcher paper while I wait for my new tissue paper to arrive. So far, I've made the summer blouse twice (sleeveless, since we don't have any use for sleeves where we live).
Gotta love the park restroom shot, right? I made another one in a navy blue and white daisy print with green for contrast. I'll have to take a photo of that one too. I need to make more of these - I find myself looking for them nearly every day. If you were thinking about making it sleeveless, I'd recommend making the armholes about 1/2" shorter. Also, I found that I only needed a short rolled hem, not the wider hem that was recommended in the book. If I want the weight of the longer hem, I would lengthen the pattern by about 2". Oh, and the rolled hem foot is my new best friend. I have a stack of fabric waiting to be made into napkins, just so I can use it.
I also made the Flower Girl dress for a birthday gift for a small cousin who is turning 1 year old.
I made the 2 year old size, and frankly, I'm hoping it fits her sturdy little body. If I were making it for the kind of 2 year olds that run in our family (the barrel chested kind) then I'd make a bigger size. The only change I made for this one was to use tie straps, since I couldn't try it on her for fitting sewn straps. I really love the fabric, which is a lightweight cotton - almost a cotton lawn.
I think the Yard Sale skirt is up next, and then a bag or three. Did I mention that I really like this book? I thought so.
Okay, off to clean the kitchen, vacuum and put away laundry before heading to the zoo. Happy Monday, friends!
That's the second time I've seen someone mention a "rolled hem" in regards to this shirt. I'm going to have to google that, because I know there is at least one more of these in my future - I am going to try it in a bamboo fabric next!
Thanks for the armhole tip. I really like your sleeveless version, and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one taking pictures of myself in less-than-perfect bathroom mirrors ;-)

hi cutie!
love your shirt - totally going to make a sleeveless one and then a handful more trapeze shirts 'cause that one has been a godsend on this trip.

Super job on that little dress. I might have to check out that book, despite my sorry sewing skills. :-)

I guess I should start off by asking why were you taking photographs in a park restroom? Secondly I have to say the shirt is super cute and that little dress is darling! I need a rolled hem foot now to make Easter napkins.

Oh, my gosh! Total "Sound of Music" moment. Your shirt is the same fabric as my curtain!
Isn't it a lovely print?
If you are interested, I posted pics of my curtain in the second entry in my blog, but I have to admit, your shirt makes me think about turning the curtain into clothes. Super Cute!

Oh my, just what I needed: Another sewing book. But I've seen this on more than one blog lately and everyone seemed to love it. So how can I resist ? I absolutely adore the fabrics you used, too.
