Hello! I haven't had time to download photos or write a real post, but after going to Montana, doing some horseback riding, heading back to the beach, then making our way home this weekend, I wanted to check in. I probably need to decompress a bit before telling you all about the last 2 weeks of the trip.
It is H-O-T here. 113 degrees today. We lost a chicken last night due to the heat and a moved waterer and a chicken that didn't figure out where it was. We are all very sad and are going to baby the other girls through the summer until we can add to the flock after it cools off in the fall. I knew we'd make some mistakes in the beginning, but man it hurts when it happens. The good news is that they're all laying, so we have beautiful fresh eggs. And we learned more about how to take care of our chickens in the heat.
One small piece of business. Pam and Greta - can you send me your email addresses at greenclogs (at) gmail.com please? I can't retrieve them from Typepad for your Boomerang episodes. Thanks!
Thanks for hanging in there. We'll be back in business around here soon.
So glad you made it home safely! At least you have AC and a pool to keep you moving. Todd and I caved and got a small AC unit that is now down in the basement. The boys have been camping and we're sleeping in the Studio on the Murphy Bed. 90+ in Seattle is no fun!
Miss you guys!

welcome back! sorry to hear about the chicken. we live in a very hot place and I've been wondering how successful I would be about keeping chickens alive through a summer.

So sorry about your hen.
One way we help our hens beat the heat, shred and freeze zucchini. Let them peck at the icy blocks.
